Join the Church on the “Second Sunday”!

family_1334cAnyone interested in joining the congregation of State College Presbyterian Church is invited to meet with the Pastor and several elders from the Session between the worship services on the Second Sunday of each month (following worship during the summer months).  If you are ready to make a commitment, you will be received into membership at that time.  You will then be recognized during worship the following Sunday (or the next Sunday you will be in attendance).  Next, a New Member Orientation will be scheduled a few times a year for those who have joined – these orientations will be two sessions where you will hear from the pastors, and you will get to know the opportunities that are available for you to get more involved here at SCPC.  An additional program will also be offered twice a year for anyone who wants to learn more about what it means to be Presbyterian.

This opportunity will be available on the Second Sunday of each month.  The goal is to allow more flexibility for those who are ready to become active members at SCPC.
The next several Second Sundays are:

  • December 10, 2017 — at 10:15 am (between the worship services)
  • January 14, 2018 — at 10:15 am (between the worship services)
  • February 11, 2018 at 10:15 am (between the worship services)
  • March 11, 2018 — at 10:15 am (between the worship services)
  • April 8, 2018 — at 10:15 am (between the worship services)
  • May 13, 2018 — at 10:15 am (between the worship services)
  • June 10, 2018 — at 11:15 am (following the single worship service)

During the program year (September – May) we meet at 10:15 am (between the worship services); during the summer months (June, July, and August) we meet following the single 10:00 am worship service — at 11:15 am in the Martin Room.

You are invited to unite with SCPC in one of the following ways:

Confession of Faith ~ First time membership in a church.  If you have not been baptized, that will be done as part of your Confession of Faith

Reaffirmation of Faith ~ reconnecting with the church by renewing your membership (and you are not currently on the membership rolls of another church)

Letter of Transfer ~ Transferring your membership from another Presbyterian Church (or some other protestant churches).  We take care of requesting your membership transfer.

Affiliate Membership ~ You are already a member of another Presbyterian Church (your home church) but you wish to temporarily join with SCPC while you are in our community. This is generally an option for college or graduate students who wish to maintain their primary membership in a home church.  Affiliate Membership is normally good for 2 years.  You may participate fully in the life of the congregation but you are not eligible to vote in congregational meetings or hold office.

If at any time you have any questions about membership, please contact Martha Trout, (814-238-2422) Membership and Program Associate.  She will be happy to speak with you or direct you to a pastor.
