Young at Heart Picnic
June 13 at Arch Spring Farm B&B
To celebrate spring and the end of the program year, Young at Heart (55+ fellowship group) will have a potluck picnic at Arch Spring Farm, Linda Morrow’s B&B in Sinking Valley, near Tyrone. We will meet at the SCPC parking lot at 4:00 pm on Friday, June 13 to arrange car pools and begin to caravan to the farm. It is about a 45-minute drive through beautiful farming countryside on Route 45, past the Ag Progress Days site and Spruce Creek. There will be maps with driving directions given out at the church. If you want to check it out ahead of time online, use Mapquest.com and enter 6548 Kettle Rd., Tyrone, PA as the destination and follow the Rt. 45 alternative.
We will eat shortly after we arrive, about 5:30. As always, bring your own table service, a dish to share and your nametag. If you have a portable lawn chair, please bring it as well as picnic table seating is limited. We’ll crowd inside the house if it rains, but otherwise, dress for the weather. After we eat, Linda and George will give tours of the two historic limestone houses and the interesting out-buildings; those who want to do some walking can walk along the road to see the outflow of the spring flowing under the natural stone arch = “Arch Spring.” We will eat beside a stream with wild brown trout; catch and release is available if you care to bring your own fly rod. We will be there close to the longest day of the year, so sunset won’t occur until 8:44 pm, giving us lots of time to explore or return home before dark.
