Date: Thursday 24 March 2016
Time: 1:00 pm
Place: SCPC -- Westminster Hall
The labyrinth will be available in Westminster Hall from 1:00 pm Maundy Thursday, March 24 through Saturday, March 26 at 1:00 pm when the building is open. The labyrinth offers individuals the chance to walk deeper into the season. The labyrinth is not a maze. It has only one path to the center and back out, which is the meaning of the term unicursal (one line). It has no blind alleys or dead ends. The path twists and turns back on itself many times before reaching the center. Once at the center, there is only one way back out. In this way, it symbolizes a journey to a predetermined destination (such as a pilgrimage to a holy site), or the journey through life from birth to spiritual awakening to death.
Walking the labyrinth, one steps into the entrance and continues to simply put one foot in front of the other. Traveling the path, one winds around and then comes to the center. Spend some time here and then return on the same path out. There is no right or wrong way to walk a labyrinth. The goal is to quiet the mind and open the heart. It is a form of body prayer or walking meditation.
